Description:
Kindergarten Phonics teaches students how to read, write, and spell. This course explicitly and systematically teaches the letters, sounds, and patterns of the English language. In Unit 1, students practice listening carefully to words and sentences, holding a pencil correctly, and blending the parts of a word aloud. In Units 2-6, students will acquire automaticity of 62 different phonograms by continually reviewing the letter sounds through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In addition to phonogram introductions and reviews, each Lesson includes a phonological awareness activity and a reading or writing activity. In Units 7-10, students will learn how to spell 120 words by applying their knowledge of phonograms and by learning foundational spelling rules. In each Lesson, students will continue to review the phonograms and practice reading one-syllable words. This course has 19 accompanying Readers that align with the phonograms and spelling words. The first 12 Readers are 100% decodable using the phonograms taught. The next seven Readers are mostly decodable but also introduce common tricky words such as of, says, and your.
