Description:
2nd Grade Phonics teaches students how to read, write, and spell. This course explicitly and systematically teaches the letters, sounds, and patterns of the English language. Throughout the first two Units, students will review the 72 phonograms introduced in Kindergarten and 1st Grade through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In addition to phonogram reviews, each Lesson includes a phonological awareness activity and a reading activity. Throughout the following eight Units, students will learn how to spell 360 words by applying their knowledge of phonograms, reviewing foundational spelling rules, and learning more challenging spelling rules. In each Lesson, students will continue to review the phonograms and practice reading one and two-syllable words. This course has 34 accompanying Readers that align with the phonograms and spelling words. The first 10 Readers are 100% decodable using the phonograms taught. The next 24 Readers are mostly decodable but also introduce common tricky words such as was, are, and one.
