Kindergarten Language Arts

Term: N/A
Edition: 2nd

Online: Yes
Paper: Yes

Accomodated/Modified Available: No

Description:
In Kindergarten Language Arts, students develop skills for speaking, listening, reading, and writing. In Units 1-2, students explore nursery rhymes and fables while learning about basic story elements, such as characters, setting, and events, as well as essential comprehension skills, such as making predictions and retelling events in order. In Units 3-4, students continue their exploration of children’s literature into classic fairy tales and folktales. Students also begin focusing on individual words by learning about nouns, verbs, and adjectives. In Unit 5, students review those three parts of speech through “Little Red Riding Hood” and learn how to write sentences. At the end of this Unit, students write a personal narrative. In Units 6-9, students become familiar with informational and persuasive texts. Students will learn how to find a topic, facts, opinions, and reasons while listening to engaging texts about community fairs, the planet, and countries around the world. Students will continue to review the basic parts of speech while learning about singular and plural nouns and prepositions. Each Unit culminates in a writing activity for students to apply what they have learned, such as writing a how-to text, a poem, and a letter to a friend. The final Unit guides students through a group research project about animals. Each Lesson provides examples and opportunities to practice various aspects of research, from asking questions to editing and revising a presentation.
