In 4th Grade Ohio History, students explore Ohio’s fascinating past, as well as its cultural, economic, and political institutions. After a review of social studies skills, they survey Ohio’s Native American origins, early British and French exploration, and statehood. Students discover pivotal moments in state history, including the formation of the Northwest Territory, the Northwest Indian War, and the War of 1812. They identify how Ohio inventors and celebrities have influenced American culture. Studies of prominent political figures include Ohioans who served as president of the United States. Students also learn how Harvey Firestone, John D. Rockefeller, and other entrepreneurs used the free enterprise system to build world-class businesses in Ohio.
